30 Photos in 30 Days- Days 18 - 23

I've decided to limit my photo posts to once a week. I've been really busy and to be honest, I'm more likely to finish this way. So here is the last week of January 2013 on Planet Solange ;)

Our kitten, Foufee went on her first walk through the streets of DC. She was so cute, people were calling to her from their cars and crossing the street to pet her. She loved all the attention and the new smells.

Sunset reflections on the brick sidewalk, after the rain.

My little supermodel enjoying the spring-like temperatures. This child never takes a bad photo.

I can't walk past a puddle without seeing another world inside it. Entrance to an alternate dimension?

My eldest daughter is magical when it comes to plants and animals. Her orchids are blooming, again!

There's nothing better than sunshine on bare toes when you get an unexpected break from winter.

The newest member of our menagerie, Chihiro. She's a Russian Blue Dumbo rat and speed demon. She is super sweet and we already adore her.

It's snowing as I type this, no more springtime for a while. It makes the memories these photos bring just that much sweeter. I hope you're out making sweet memories, too.

30 Photos in 30 Days – Days 12-17

It's been a week of viral distractions, animal mishaps and snowy views.  It's nice to finally have time to sit with a cup of jasmine green and edit a bit of my week to share with you. Hope you enjoy!

Brilliant blue winter sky at the Smithsonian.

Delicate paw prints in the first snow of the winter.

Poor, lovely little sakura you've blossomed too soon. I think we both hope spring comes early this year.

What is this stuff and why is it so cold? You could read the thoughts on Foufee's precious little face. She jumped into Esmé's arms after this and refused to get down. Maybe we need to get her some boots?

Spectacular sunset lit the sky on fire, threatening to melt the snow. It was an empty threat but a lovely show.

A gift of Kumamon from Japan. Aren't they adorable little bears?

Just can't get enough citrus this winter. Mandarin oranges and tangerines are the best!

Esmé brightened the week with her neon style. She's so confident in her individuality and her fashion sense. I was never this cool at 14.

Nora's adorable snow kitty. Don't you want to pet her?

Speaking of petting... Rukia and Foufee snuggled together are irresistible. Had to hug them.

I hope you all stay warm and cozy this weekend. Snuggling is the perfect winter activity, isn't it?

30 Photos in 30 Days - Day 10 & 11

 Painted Ladies (In Winter) ©2013

Beautiful row houses add welcome colour to a dreary, cold, January day. Taken in the hippest of
hipster areas, just off H Street corridor in Northeast DC.

Distorted View ©2013

I've always been fascinated with shadows and reflections. The branches reflected here give a slight creepy twist to the photo, don't you think?  It makes me wonder what's behind the curtain... watching me.

30 Photos in 30 Days - Day 7

Pineapple Army ©2013

No chance to go out with my Nikon today, so I snapped this with my phone. I don't think I've ever seen so many pineapples in one place! I've had the song I named this for in my head all day, so I'll share the video below. Now if only I had some Pineapple Upside Down cake to share.

30 Photos in 30 Days ~ Day 5 & 6

Despite the best of intentions to keep on schedule, sometimes the universe has other plans for you. So it's two blogs for the price of one today. Hopefully that's a one day special, but I can't promise.

Gloomy grey and so very January is how the week began. Will the song remain the same? We can only guess along with the weatherman, who seems to be striking out lately.

A Hint Of Spring ©2013

I received a lovely surprise today when I went grocery shopping. Out of character for me, I signed up for a Belly Card a couple of months ago. I normally shy away from anything that tracks me in my daily life (those punk rock, anarchist tendencies being hard to shake), but after checking out their site I decided to give it a go. You just scan your little card or app on the ipad at the checkout and receive points with every purchase. Doesn't hurt a bit ;) If I'm going to shop somewhere consistently why not get a few rewards for my loyalty, right? Ummm... I suppose now's the time to admit I have a Starbucks gold card too, huh? Which means I've lost my Seattle cool cred for life. Where was I? Jeez... oh yeah, flowers. I got free flowers!! Which really doesn't suck anytime, but is especially welcome on a rainy winter's day. So thank you Belly and Yes! Organic Market for brightening my desk and my day.

(Nope, it's not a paid promotion. I just want you to get free flowers :))

Colour Crazy ©2013

Spent today at the Museum of Natural History. Chicklet #2 brought a touch of Harajuku mixed with a dash of K Pop ♡ along with us. I found the perfect backdrop and she made the perfect face to go with.

January Rain ©2013

Shadow shapes reflect the chill in bones
As streaks of grey scent luminescent air
Puddles splash with a hint of menace
Quickening footsteps towards havens of warmth
Safe from January rain
